We have a very active drama department. We generally do two mainstage shows, one Musical, UIL One-Act Play, Student Directed productions, and two-three Class Plays. We also attend Thespian Convention and Texas Educational Theatre Assoc. Convention. Our drama club has numerous events throughout the school year such as: Children's workshop for ages 7-11, Camping, Bowling, Drama Banquet, and selected charity events.We also attend numerous professional shows, Texas Renaissance Festivaland, etc.
Our Department consists of two theatre teachers. Ms. Hughes teaches Varsity Theatre Production, Junior Varsity Production, Theatre Arts I-IV (P). and Mr. Grueneich teaches Theatre Arts I (T), Tech Prodution I-IV & Freshman Production . Also, Mr. Grueneich is the Department Head, Drama Club and Thespian Society sponsor.
Our philosophy is that students should be exposed to all aspects of theatre to become well-rounded individuals as well as stewards of the arts. Learning acting, technical theatre, and observing different professional productions help develop a strong theatre participant and well as teaching critical thinking skills that transcend the realm of theatre and can be applied in other school subjects and in life.
